Bicycle manufacturing

Develop a complete range with shared purchased parts, size-specific assemblies, supplier lots, pilot quantities and serialized bicycles.

  • Three model families and nine size variants
  • Nested BOMs with shared quantities and supplier costs
  • Prototype corrections, sourcing and pilot builds
First steps after applying
  1. Follow a size-specific bicycle BOM

Open a Bicycle Model, follow its Bicycle Variants and expand the nested assemblies. Compare purchased parts, quantities and supplier costs for the intended size.

  2. Review sourcing and incoming inspection

Open the linked Bicycle Purchase Order lines and Component Lots. Check ordered quantities, supplier references and incoming inspection evidence before using a lot in a pilot build.

  3. Review the prototype and design release

Follow the variant’s Bicycle Prototype, Validation and Component Compatibility Review records. Retain physical findings and repeat attempts, then approve and inspect the exact Bicycle Design Release revision before internal certification.

Bicycle prototype validation

Start with a focused gravel M variant and its complete BOM. Review component interfaces, record physical observations and follow a correction into its repeat test.

  • One gravel variant and its nested component BOM
  • A physical prototype and component-interface reviews
  • A retained failed observation and a pending repeat
First steps after applying
  1. Inspect the gravel M prototype

Open the gravel Bicycle Variant and expand its frame, fork, wheelset and drivetrain BOM. Follow the linked physical Bicycle Prototype.

  2. Review the component interfaces

Open Component Compatibility Review records to compare frame, fork, axle, drivetrain and brake interfaces. Record the sources and findings used for your decision.

  3. Follow the correction into a repeat

Open Bicycle Validation records to retain the failed observation and its linked pending repeat. Record fresh physical evidence before reviewing the approved design-release revision and its required inspections.

Models, categories and size variants

Give MTB, road and gravel families their own design briefs. Each size and trim keeps its frame geometry, finish, wheel specification and drawing references. Extend the category catalogue for trail, enduro, urban, cargo or e-bike development.

Parts inside reusable assemblies

Build a complete variant from frame kits, wheelsets, drivetrains, brakes, cockpits and packaging. Expand nested assemblies and trace shared parts through where-used before changing a specification.

Explore Bills of materials

Supplier costs through the whole bicycle

Keep the price unit with each purchased part, from a spoke priced per piece to rim tape priced per metre. Shared component costs flow through the nested assemblies into every variant that uses them.

Common questions

What do the bicycle starters include?

Bicycle manufacturing provides 15 record types and 496 optional example records, including suppliers, parts, assemblies, variants, prototypes, interface reviews, pilot orders, incoming lots, built units and design releases. Bicycle prototype validation uses the same model with 114 focused records for one gravel variant.

Can different bicycle categories share parts?

Yes. Define a purchased part or assembly once and reference it from multiple BOMs. The examples share items such as spokes, fasteners and packaging while keeping category-specific frames and size-specific cockpit assemblies.

How is component compatibility reviewed?

A dedicated interface review links the exact variant and two components to drawing references, supplier evidence, notes and a recorded decision. Your team determines fit and acceptance criteria; matching a field or speed count does not establish compatibility.

Does a prototype pass release the bicycle design?

Prototype observations retain their own physical sample history. Internal design release requires a separate approved package and the required inspections against its exact revision. The team records those decisions explicitly.

Does the design BOM describe the actual assembled bicycle?

The design BOM specifies the intended configuration. Each serialized bicycle has its own installed-part records and supplier-lot links. The sample units begin in build with only the frame and fork recorded; the team adds the remaining actual fitments.
